During his time in China he helped develop the market for Asiana Airlines in the region. His efforts greatly contributed to Asiana’s current position as the No.1 foreign carrier operating to China. In 2000, Kim returned to Seoul to manage passenger marketing and sales in the Greater China Region.

In 2008, Kim was appointed President & CEO of Asiana’s regional affiliate, Air Busan, in 2008. He was appointed President of Asiana Airlines on January 1, 2014 in recognition of his contributions to both Asiana and Air Busan.
