Canada's flag carrier is among the 20 largest airlines in the world. Air Canada, together with its Air Canada Express regional partners and Air Canada rouge, provides scheduled passenger service directly to 64 Canadian cities, 54 destinations in the United States and 92 cities in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America. Air Canada is the only international network carrier in North America to receive a Four-Star ranking according to independent U.K. research firm Skytrax. Its shares are traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Calin Rovinescu was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Canada on April 1, 2009.
Mr. Rovinescu is the Chairman of the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board (CEB), the controlling body of the Alliance with each of the member airlines represented by their respective CEO, a role he was elected to in November, 2012. The CEB provides the overall strategic direction of the Alliance, approves the appropriate funding and votes on the admittance of new member airlines.
He also serves as a Member of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and was Chairman from 2014-2015.
From 2004 until he re-joined Air Canada, Mr. Rovinescu was Co-founder and Principal of Genuity Capital Markets, an independent investment bank.
Mr. Rovinescu first joined Air Canada in 2000 as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy. Prior to 2000, he was the Managing Partner of the law firm Stikeman Elliott in Montreal.
