In operation since 1945, TAP celebrated 70 years in 2015 and has completed its privatization process also in 2015, with the Atlantic Gateway Group now as a new private shareholder. Its hub in Lisbon is a key European gateway at the crossroads of Africa, North, Central and South America, where TAP stands out as the international leading carrier in operation to Brazil. The company’s network comprises 76 destinations in 29 countries worldwide. TAP operates about 2,500 weekly flights in average, on a 63 Airbus aircraft fleet plus 17 aircraft operating in TAP Express livery, TAP new regional branded product, adding up to an 80 aircraft fleet. Within the vast restructure program currently going across the company as the outcome of its privatisation process, TAP has announced, among other changes, its network restructure, the launch of new branded fares, its medium and long haul fleet renewal program as of 2017, with the phase-in of 53 Airbus wide-body and single aisle aircraft of the next generation: 14 A330- 900neo and 39 A320neo family, along with the retrofit of the fleet currently in operation and the launch of TAP Express, which replaces PGA in the regional network and will operate a new fleet of 8 ATR 72 and 9 Embraer 190. In the pursuit of its customer focused policy, TAP continuously works to deliver safe, reliable and upgraded products & services, tailored to meet customer expectations. Retaining the Portuguese character of the Company’s brand and quality service as the basic concept has been the main driver of TAP strategy. The company has been largely recognized and awarded nationally and internationally. TAP Portugal´s main hubs and destinations include Lisbon, Ponta Delgada, Sao Paulo, Porto, London and Funchal.

Fernando Pinto

Fernando Pinto, CEO of TAP since October 2000, was born in 1949, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He is married, has two children and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He presented a prototype of the first hovercraft made in Brazil as his graduation project, applying technology absorbed in England.

Pinto’s academic degrees also include: a Technical degree in Powerplant & Mechanics from the Federal Technical School of Rio de Janeiro; Extension in Business Administration in Getúlio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro and a number of technical specializations in Aeronautics as well.

Before joining TAP Portugal, he was President and CEO of Varig S.A., Viação Aérea Rio-Grandense (1996 – 2000) and President and CEO of the Rio-Sul, Serviços Aéreos Regionais (1992-1996). With a long career and experience in aviation, Fernando Pinto first started back in 1972, at the Brazilian Varig. He has never interrupted his activity within the industry ever since.
