The airline has a rich history in aviation, tracing its roots to 1926 when a small Swallow biplane owned by Walter T. Varney carried airmail to Nevada from Pasco, Washington – a flight that marked the true beginning of commercial air transportation and the birth of United Airlines. Today, the airline operates the most fuel efficient fleet among U.S. network carriers with the world’s most comprehensive global route network, including world-class international gateways to Asia and Australia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. United, together with United Express, offers more than 4,500 flights a day to 339 destinations from hubs in Chicago, Denver, Guam, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo and Washington, D.C. United employs more than 87,500 people worldwide.

Oscar Munoz

Oscar Munoz is president and chief executive officer of United Airlines. He brings to this position deep and broad experience in both the transportation industry and large consumer brands.

Previously, Oscar served as president and chief operating officer of CSX Corporation, a premier freight transportation company. He also served as a director at CSX. Prior to joining CSX, Oscar served in various financial and strategic capacities at some of the world's most recognized consumer brands, including AT&T, The Coca-Cola Company, and Pepsico.

Oscar has served on the board of directors for United Continental Holdings, Inc. since 2010 and served on the board of directors of Continental Airlines, Inc. since 2004.
