Avianca Brasil joins Star Alliance

SAO PAULO, Brazil, July 22 - Avianca Brasil was welcomed to the Star Alliance network at a special ceremony held at Guarulhos International Airport on July 22, adding 15 new unique destinations in the Brazilian market.

“Adding Avianca Brasil to our network is an important step in enhancing our customer proposition in Latin America," said Star Alliance CEO Mark Schwab. With this addition, the Star Alliance network grows to serve 1,330 destinations across 192 countries, served by more than 18,500 daily flights.

Avianca Brasil is the fastest growing airline in Brazil. From 2010 to 2014 it increased its market share by 2.6% to 8.3%. In total 13 member carriers (Air Canada, Air China, Avianca, Avianca in Brazil, Copa Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, SWISS, TAP, Turkish Airlines and United) now serve Brazil, a larger number than any other alliance.

Jose Efromovich, President and CEO of Avianca Brasil commented: "Today we are setting the future pace of our airline and close a two year process which saw us move to a new IT platform, review and update our internal processes and roll out a training programme for our employees to ensure that they can provide the best possible service to the customers from our fellow Star Alliance members. We are proud to be part of the most experienced airline alliance and are looking forward to jointly putting Brazil back on the Star Alliance map."
