Star Alliance CEO Award winners 2017

BEIJING, Dec 13: The Star Alliance CEO Awards are presented annually in December and recognise outstanding and unique contributions by individuals, or teams of individuals, at the member carriers who have demonstrated active leadership and excellence in initiatives to support the mission of Star Alliance. This year awards were made in the area of fuel sourcing and loyalty. Winner representatives were invited to the Chief Executive Board meeting in Beijing to receive the accolade.

The first award went to Chai Eamsiri, Vice President Petroleum, Insurance and Aviation Environmental Department at Thai Airways, in recognition of his contribution to the Star Alliance Fuel Sourcing Group and various Star Alliance fuel joint sourcing initiatives. A founder member of the group, Chai has supported its activities for 15 years. “Chai Eamsiri is one of the most reliable and knowledgeable people in Star-Fuel and has constantly contributed good advice to the group,” Jeffrey Goh said, presenting the award in Beijing.

“He is very experienced when it comes to considering cultural differences, is the perfect mediator and never acts selfishly. His creative ideas, solutions and support have helped in the facilitation of important deals and his standing is such that suppliers recognise that any proposal he supports has been well thought through."

The second award went to the Ad Hoc group which implemented the Passenger Accrual Interface – PAI Hub. This provides the technical infrastructure to enable the Alliance-wide accrual of miles. The team was recognised with a CEO award due to their commitment to ensuring a consistently high performance of the PAI Hub and to the launch the Online Retro functionality, which allow customers to claim missing miles or points retrospectively online for travel on every individual member carrier.

“This 2017 Star Alliance CEO Award recognises the great contribution of the PAI Ad-hoc group in driving the strategy to “make the customer journey better”,” Jeffrey Goh said, presenting the award to Monic Poirier of Air Canada and Steve Collins of Air New Zealand, who represented the wider team in Beijing along with Rong Wang and Li Yumeng of Air China. "Customers have readily adopted the new online retro functionality and we are now processing over 400,000 requests per month," Jeffrey Goh said.

"The PAI group did a great job in defining the technical requirements and business processes to make this functionality work smoothly for Star Alliance customers.” Nominations for the annual CEO Awards can be made by Star HQ business units, the Committees or the AMB.
