Tarom eyes profitability with fleet, route growth
Tarom has reported Q3 traffic and revenue growth as the airline continues a strategy of fleet and route expansion in pursuit of profitability. For the quarter, Tarom carried 21% more passengers and saw a 23% increase in revenue compared to the year-ago period, CE Werner Wilhelm said. The carrier recorded a loss of RON172m (US$44m) in 2017. Wolff said the airline has a strategy to return to profitability but could not say when that would happen. “It is difficult to give a strict estimate. There are many variables, such as the price of aircraft fuel, which are not under the control of our company,” he said. “However, we can state that Tarom is developing important investments starting from 2018 and into the following years.” Tarom added 2 Boeing 737-800NGs to its fleet this year. <br/>
