Lufthansa Group hires first CIO for all airlines

Deutsche Lufthansa has named Roland Schütz as its first CIO for all airlines in the Lufthansa Group, the company said Wednesday. The new position involves managing all aspects of information technology for Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Swiss and Eurowings, a company spokeswoman told CIO Journal. The appointment is effective immediately. Schütz, a senior IT manager at the German airline for more than 10 years, was previously CIO of Lufthansa Passage, the company’s largest business segment that oversees its fleet of long-haul, medium-haul and regional planes, since June 2014. He has also worked in the airline’s cargo and IT systems divisions. As group CIO, Schütz is responsible for efforts to consolidate “digitization programs” and accelerate the “digital transformation” of group airlines, the company said. It said the broader goal is to offer passengers “modern digital interfaces, mobile applications and comfortable booking and handling processes.”<br/>
