United and the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers reached tentative agreements on new contracts for nearly 30,000 IAM-represented employees. The seven agreements, which run up to 2021, call for nearly 30 percent in pay increases over the term of the deal and US$100m in lump sum payments, the IAM said. The agreements are subject to ratification by the IAM-represented employees, United said. The IAM members will vote on the accords on April 15. The agreements cover airport operations employees, contact centre agents, storekeepers, maintenance instructors, central load planners, fleet technical instructors and related employees, and security officers. United's management has made securing contracts a top focus following a leadership change in September.
Lufthansa will restart some flights to Brussels airport this week, after the airport's partial reopening on Sunday following the suicide bomb attack that badly damaged its departure hall and killed 16 people last month. Lufthansa said two flights each from Frankfurt and Munich would operate on Tuesday, increasing to four departures from each of its hubs on Wednesday and Thursday. However, the carrier said it was still cancelling 52 flights to and from Brussels between Tuesday and Thursday and its shuttle bus service from Frankfurt to Brussels would be running until the end of Wednesday.
