Turkish Airlines plans to save US$250M this year

Turkish Airlines Board and Executive Committee chairman Ilker Ayci said the company has revised its budget for 2016 to save US$250m, cutting down on expenditures, adding that it will also take proactive measures against the problems arising from security concerns in different geographic locations, particularly Europe. Despite the 10% increase in its total assets, THY closed the first half of the year with $411m in losses. In addition to slow global growth, due to the terror attack at Istanbul Atatürk and a failed coup attempt, THY experienced an exceptional year, and it is getting ready to take steps aiming to minimise the effects of these negative developments. Stressing that THY has not made any changes on its long-term goals, Aycı said they have been working hard to compensate the losses in the second half of the year.
Launch customer for Boeing 787 marks another milestone

Boeing and ANA celebrated the delivery of the airline’s 50th 787 Dreamliner during a ceremony Aug 17 at Boeing’s Everett Delivery Centre in Washington state. The milestone marks yet another record for ANA as it becomes the world’s first airline to operate 50 787s. “The 787 Dreamliner has played a significant role in opening up new routes into new markets, while also forming the backbone of our long-haul fleet,” ANA president and CE Osamu Shinobe said. As part of efforts to expand its global network, ANA also announced plans to launch new routes from Tokyo Narita to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in September, and to Mexico City in Feb 2017, using 787s. ANA operates more than 11% of all 787s around the world and has flown an estimated 125,000 flights with the aircraft. ANA has an additional 33 787s on order.
