Aviation emission cap 'unjust', India to play no part
India has offered an alternative sectoral target system for reducing aviation emissions and has refused to accept the proposed cap under UN’s Global Market Based Mechanism for Civil Aviation by 2020. The proposal however has been supported by other BRIC nations, said Union minister for Human Resources Prakash Javadekar after the Cabinet meeting Wednesday. “There is an attempt to bring a cap on emissions in civil aviation (sector) by 2020. That is the proposal and we said that for the developing world, the proposal is unfair... When it (economy) is growing, you cannot cap our emissions from aviation... A cap by 2020 will be injustice,” he said. GMBM, mooted by the ICAO, seeks to reduce carbon emission in the aviation sector. <br/>
