Etihad Airways is testing out new technology applications including augmented reality and artificial intelligence to provide more personalised services to its passengers. During a tour of the airline’s Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi, Etihad showcased some of its latest digital applications and how they could transform the future of air travel. These start with a smartphone app that includes every user’s information and preferences, with the app synchronised to Etihad’s cabin crew system so they have every passenger’s details. The app also shows users their plane tickets, suggested landmarks to visit at the destination, and facilities at the airport they are boarding from. The app was launched in April this year on the iOS store and has been downloaded 350,000 times since then, the airline said. The app is still in its early phases, however, and currently doesn’t show as many features as Etihad is testing out. Etihad is aiming to cut all paper use in the future when passengers are able to check in and board aircraft by using their smartphones instead of paper tickets.<br/>
