American Airlines flight attendants want new uniforms recalled

American Airlines’ flight attendants union wants the carrier to issue a full recall of its new uniforms after hundreds of flight attendants have reported allergic reaction to the clothes. The carrier debuted the new uniforms manufactured by Twin Hill, in September and since then has worked with the Association of Professional Flight Attendants to test the uniforms and work on replacements for those who have a reaction. The union said it has received reports of headaches, hives and rashes related to the uniforms from over 1,600 flight attendants. “While the company has reaffirmed its commitment to continue joint testing with APFA to determine what is causing these conditions, it has stopped short of a full recall,” the union said in a message sent to flight attendants on Wednesday. “We feel a remedy that excludes a full recall of the uniform fails to adequately protect our members.” An American spokesman said the company has allowed about 200 flight attendants to continue wearing the old uniforms and has ordered 600 non-wool uniforms to address some of the skin reactions. The company is also offering dermatological testing for individuals who have had reactions to try to determine a cause.
American Airlines cutting number of flights to Cuba after weak demand

American Airlines will reduce the number of round trip flights from 13 to 10 starting in February – as well as flying smaller planes for certain routes. The airline said demand was the reason for the move. Other airlines have said they will keep their schedule as is, but that could change in the coming weeks. American was one of eight airlines that bid for the rights to fly between the U.S. and Cuba when President Obama announced plans to begin restoring travel between the counties. Flights started from South Florida on August 31st – with service to Havana added just this week. A spokesman for the airline told the Miami Herald that the the move had nothing to do with comments made from Trump regarding a possible ending of the restoring push – however, some experts say travelLers are growing worried and are in a wait-and-see mode for future plans regarding travel between the countries.
