BA suspends sales of flights from Manchester to London during strike
British Airways has suspended the sale of flights from Manchester to Heathrow during a planned 2-day strike. Unite, the union representing the airline’s cabin crew, says staff have rejected a pay offer and will strike Tuesday and Wednesday. A BA spokeswoman said the suspension should be lifted Friday when they have worked out a contingency plan. Although other BA services are currently available over those days. The walk-out affects ‘Mixed Fleet’ crew - those hired after 2010 on lesser pay terms, or 28% of the total cabin crew. Unite has dubbed their salary, a basic of GBP12,192, ‘poverty pay’ - although British Airways says the lowest wage is actually currently GBP21,151. The airline has said it will publish a full plan for the 2 days Friday. Experts say BA is likely to protect long-haul services. <br/>
