Delta Air Lines to pull out of Taiwan in May

Delta Air Lines will drop its route to Taipei, effectively ending all of the carrier’s service to Taiwan. Currently, Delta flies to Taoyuan International with daily service from its hub at Tokyo Narita. But those flights will end this spring. The last Delta-operated flight will depart Taipei May 24. Delta’s decision to drop Taiwan from its route map comes after the carrier warned that recently expanded options for US flights from Tokyo’s close-to-downtown Haneda could weaken its hub at the more-distant Narita airfield. A Delta spokesman cited that development when asked about the discontinuation of the Taipei flights. He pointed to the partial liberalisation of daytime slots at Haneda, saying that has reduced the amount of traffic flowing through Narita and is now forcing Delta to “restructure” some of its Narita hub schedules. <br/>
