Chinese tourists flying Finnair can now pay for their inflight shopping with Alipay, the payments platform affiliated with e-commerce giant Alibaba. In a microblog on Chinese social networking site Weibo, the platform said that users can make payment for their purchases through the Alipay app by scanning a QR payment code provided by the flight crew, and foreign currency conversion rates are based on the daily rate.<br/>(Alibaba owns the South China Morning Post.) Since October last year, Alipay has partnered with Helsinki-based e-payments company ePassi Payments to bring Alipay to Finland. Since then, Chinese travellers have been able to use the Alipay app to pay for purchases at over 100 merchants in the country. More than 550,000 Chinese tourists visit Finland every year, with an average spend of E650 per visit, according to ePassi. However, this figure only takes into consideration tourists who use credit cards, as most Chinese tourists still prefer to pay by cash overseas. Alipay, which is operated by Ant Financial, has its sights firmly set on expanding its services around the world with a target to serve two billion users globally within the next decade.<br/>
