American Airlines Group will find a new supplier to make uniforms for 70,000 employees, following thousands of complaints by flight attendants who said the current outfits were making them ill. The carrier is selecting a new provider and won’t renew its contract with Twin Hill, a unit of Tailored Brands, American said in a letter to employees Wednesday. Attendants, pilots and customer service agents received new uniforms starting in September. Selecting new suppliers for so many employees will take as many as 3 years, according to the carrier, which didn’t provide a cost estimate. American’s move could contain a controversy that has festered for months, as the number of flight attendants complaining of wheezing, fatigue, skin rashes and other ailments grew to more than 3,500 and pilots also reported adverse reactions.
Malaysia Airlines Berhad plans to convert 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8s it has on order to the new 737 MAX 10 version, the company said Wednesday. The order is valued at nearly US$1.3n at list prices. "As competition and our business continue to grow, the superior efficiency and additional capacity of the 737 MAX 10 will allow us to keep differentiating ourselves,” Malaysia Airlines MD and CE Peter Bellew said. Malaysia Airlines firmed its order for 25 737 MAX 8s in July 2016. The airline’s operating fleet includes 56 737-800s, 2 747-400 freighters, 15 Airbus A330-300s, 3 A330-200 freighters and 6 A380s. The airline is finalising plans to launch an A380-based charter business concept targeting the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage market in Q3 of 2018, according to comments Bellew made earlier this month.
