Air Canada posts US$230m Q2 net profit on 14% traffic rise

Air Canada delivered a C$300m (US$230.3m) net profit for Q2 2017, up 61.3% over the airline’s $186m net income in Q2 2016. The result shows a marked turnaround from the airline’s $37m net loss in Q1 2017 and brings the carrier’s half-year net profit to $263m, down 8.4% from $287m in the 2016 1H. “With the launch of 16 international and US transborder routes this quarter alone, we continue to increase international to international connecting passengers via Canada,” Air Canada president and CE Calin Rovinescu said. “Demand continues to be robust in a stable fuel and pricing environment as we move into what has historically been our most important quarter given the travel demands and patterns of our North American customers.” <br/>
