United Airlines notches big traffic growth in April

United Airlines saw strong increases in traffic in most regions during the month of April, according to the carrier’s April ops report released Tuesday. As top United execs have noted in recent months, the carrier's current game plan is to boost capacity and add new routes in hopes the moves will grow United's traffic and market share. So far, the strategy looks to be generating results. Domestic traffic grew 8.3% year over year in April, with big gains in both mainline and regional traffic. Mainline traffic climbed 8.2% and regional traffic was even stronger, growing 8.6% year over year in April. Internationally, the growth was more modest, climbing 0.9%. The only substantial traffic growth was trans-Atlantic, which climbed 8.6% year over year. Trans-Pacific, however, was a different story, falling 2.6%. <br/>
