Japan's ANA cancels 176 more flights for Rolls-Royce engine checks

ANA Holdings on Monday cancelled 176 flights from July 13 through July 22 to inspect Trent 1000 engines built by Rolls-Royce, adding to 113 flights it had cancelled for the preceding week. ANA warned that further cancellations were possible in the following weeks. The company said it would announce any cancellations for the rest of the month on July 12, and any August flight cancellations on July 17. ANA said last week it would inspect engines for compressor issues that have led to service interruptions for airlines globally. The affected Trent 1000 engines are used on ANA’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets.
Ethiopia Airlines to buy 20% Eritrean carrier stake, agency says

Ethiopia’s national airline will take a 20% stake in Eritrean Airlines, the state-owned Ethiopian Press Agency reported, citing unidentified Eritrean media. Ethiopian Airlines Enterprise, Africa’s biggest carrier by revenue, will also resume flights next week to Asmara, the capital of neighboring Eritrea, the ruling party-funded Fana Broadcasting Corp. reported earlier, after the two countries made a historic agreement to end a state of war and rebuild economic ties. The renewed service comes after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s weekend visit to Eritrea, where he and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki pledged cooperation in political, economic and security matters, easing relations that have been fraught for almost two decades.
Remaining wreckage of flight 93 is buried at memorial

The remaining wreckage of United Flight 93 has been buried near the Pennsylvania memorial marking where it crashed on 9/11. Four shipping containers holding the wreckage were buried in a private ceremony on June 21 in a restricted area accessible only to loved ones of the victims, the Flight 93 National Memorial said in a statement Monday. The wreckage was scoured for identifiable items in the months before the burial, and workers found a number of items that will be added to the memorial collection. The park service is expected later this year to release a full report of the items collected and how they will be incorporated into the memorial. The final phase of the memorial is on track to open on the 17th anniversary of the attacks. It will include a 93-foot tower at the entrance with wind chimes for each of the 40 victims, called the Tower of Voices.
