So far, it seems like a win-win for both American Airlines and customers in regard to the airline's new bag policy. In July, American Airlines Group announced a change to its basic economy offering "to be more customer friendly," chairman and CE Doug Parker said. Previously, travellers flying in that class had to pay US$25 for a carry-on bag. The carrier rescinded that fee, and instead allowed customers flying in its cheapest class to bring a carry-on bag for free. Customers have the ability to bump up to economy class at the last minute of the checkout process for a fee. American tracks how many people upgrade from basic economy, and expected to see that percentage decrease following the carry-on change because basic economy now has that extra perk. <br/>
