Alitalia accepts binding purchase offer from state railways: source

The state-appointed commissioners running Alitalia have accepted a binding purchase offer for the national carrier by the Ferrovie dello Stato (Fs) state railway company, a source close to the matter said Tuesday. Italy's flagship airline was put under special administration last year after workers rejected its latest rescue plan, leaving the government once again seeking a buyer to save the ailing company. The commissioners accepted the offer from Fs after consultation with the industry ministry, the source said.<br/>
