After nearly 3 years of studies and tests, China Eastern Airlines has introduced the country’s first radio-frequency identification bag tracking service for its customers. With the technology, China Eastern customers will be able to track their checked-in baggage real time, using the China’s multi-function messaging app WeChat. The introduction is in time for the Lunar New Year festival. The airline will roll out the service to passengers traveling via Shanghai’s Pudong and Hongqiao airports, as well as hubs in Kunming and Xian. On average, about 80,000 luggage information will be available to customers daily. The RFID will enable the airline to collect more accurate data on how checked-in luggage is processed and provide greater assurance and service to the passengers.
A deaf couple who are activists for the hearing impaired allege that a gate agent for Delta Air Lines discriminated against them at Detroit Metro Airport. Socorro Garcia and Melissa Yingst said they tried to communicate with an agent Sunday about getting seats next to each other on a flight to Los Angeles, but the agent threw away the paper they were writing on and rolled her eyes. The airline said there were conflicting views of the incident but that it was investigating. Garcia said he tried to retrieve the paper but that the agent called police and alleged Garcia assaulted her. The agent discarded the paper because she thought the conversation was over, a spokesman for Delta said. The agent felt threatened because Garcia knocked into the agent's leg when he aggressively went behind the ticket counter, which isn't permitted.
