Slovenian airline given a week to sort out financial woes

Slovenia's aviation agency has given troubled Adria Airways a week to present a financial plan to keep its license after the cash-strapped carrier suspended all but 1 of its flights this week. Rok Marolt, the head of the Civil Aviation Agency, said Wednesday the company's permit will be revoked without delay if it fails to provide the required documentation by Oct 2. The carrier Tuesday suspended the flights for 2 days and Wednesday extended the suspension until Friday, saying it will keep only the evening flight to Frankfurt, the most important hub. Formerly Slovenia's national carrier, Adria Airways was sold in 2016 to German investment fund 4K Invest. Slovenian media have reported that thousands of passengers have been affected by the suspension.
Air NZ firms up order for 8 787-10s

Air NZ has firmed up its May commitment to order 8 Boeing 787-10s that will be powered by General Electric GEnx-1B engines. The carrier says in a stock exchange disclosure that it has signed the contracts for the aircraft, although it needs to be formally approved by shareholders at its annual general meeting Sept 25. At list prices, the 8 jets are valued at US$2.7b, and will be delivered between late 2020 and 2027. They will replace its 8 777-200ERs and complement its fleet of 14 Rolls-Royce Trent 1000-powered 787-9s. The order includes 12 options for additional 787s that can be used for any of the type's 3 variants. Air NZ intends to use the 787-10s on its Asian network and on some services to the US west coast.
Virgin Australia eyes ANA partnership, Haneda slot

Virgin Australia wants to establish itself in the Australia-Japan market by launching its own service and forming a new strategic partnership with ANA. Virgin announced it is applying for a coveted slot at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, which it wants to use for a daily flight from Brisbane. While the airline has previously signalled it would seek a Haneda slot, it had not specified the route. Virgin also revealed its intention to form a reciprocal codeshare with ANA on the Japanese airline’s existing and proposed Australian services. ANA already operates flights from Haneda to Sydney, and from Tokyo Narita Airport to Perth. It has been awarded another Haneda slot for the Australian market, although it has yet to reveal the specific route.
