Man charged with opening plane’s emergency exit door at Auckland International Airport

A man has been charged with opening an emergency exit door while a plane was on the tarmac at Auckland International Airport. Court documents seen by Stuff allege the 28-year-old man interfered with the emergency exit door of Qatar Flight QR921 on Thursday. A police spokesperson said the man allegedly attempted to escape police custody from a plane at about 12pm. “The man was quickly apprehended after he exited the plane door and landed on the tarmac. He sustained minor injuries.” He is set to appear in the Manukau District Court on Friday. The charge, under the Civil Aviation Act 1990, carries a maximum penalty of 1 year imprisonment. Flight QR921 was set to leave Auckland for Doha when the man allegedly opened the plane door and jumped out as the plane was set to depart. <br/>
