Royal Jordanian airlines suspends flights to Beirut, state news agency says

Jordan's flag carrier Royal Jordanian suspended flights to Beirut on Sunday "due to the current situation", the state news agency reported without giving an exact time frame for the suspension. Officials told Reuters there was no disruption to Jordanian airspace. Lebanon's Iran-aligned Hezbollah movement launched hundreds of rockets and drones against Israel early on Sunday in retaliation for the assassination of its senior commander Fuad Shukr in an Israeli strike in Beirut on July 30. The Israeli military said its jets hit targets in Lebanon shortly before the military assessed Hezbollah was preparing to launch the attacks. The latest escalation between Israel and Hezbollah comes amid regional fears of a wider response by Iran and its regional proxies to the assassination of Palestinian Hamas' leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31.
Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Amal to reduce flights until December after string of aircraft issues

Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Amal will cut flights until December to address issues that have resulted in a recent spate of disruptions. There have been at least four incidents in August, including a Malaysia Airlines flight to Shanghai that was forced to turn back to Kuala Lumpur on Aug 20 due to a suspected cabin pressure issue. A day before that, a Malaysia Airlines flight from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur was diverted to Alice Springs Airport in Australia due to a technical issue. The Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), which owns the three airlines, announced on Saturday (Aug 24) that it will "temporarily reduce its network" until December while it looks into implementing any potential corrective measures. "This is to ensure the long-term reliability of our fleet and robustness of our operations and enhance our ability to ensure our customers on Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Amal services face minimal disruptions and have the best experience possible flying with us," said Captain Izham Ismail, MAG's group managing director.
Cracks in Qantas 787 Dreamliner found after tyre’s tread propelled into wing

A Qantas 787 Dreamliner has suffered cracks in panelling and a flap after tread from a wheel was propelled at high speed into one of its wings during take-off from Rome’s busiest airport. Photos of the damaged aircraft show cracks in part of the wing, as well as extensive scuff marks from the wheel’s tread hitting it. The damage has forced Qantas to temporarily remove the long-haul aircraft from service while inspections and repairs are undertaken. The incident occurred during take-off from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport on Friday as the aircraft was en route to Perth on a 16-hour flight. Qantas Flight QF6 was carrying 195 passengers. Qantas confirmed that tread separated from one of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner’s tyres during take-off in Rome, damaging the lower right wing of the aircraft. Pilots and the rest of the crew were unaware of the damage to the aircraft during the flight. It was discovered when engineers conducted a walk-around of the plane when it arrived in Perth on Saturday. Cracks were found across two panels and a wing flap. An onward flight by the Boeing 787 to Sydney on Saturday was cancelled, and passengers were put on other services. A return flight the aircraft was due to make from Melbourne to Los Angeles on Tuesday has also been cancelled.
