Passenger fractures leg as jet hits severe turbulence above Brazil

One passenger has suffered a fractured leg after an American Airlines Boeing 777-200 struck severe turbulence above Brazil on Sunday (NZT). The flight was two hours into its flight from São Paulo to Miami, US when the shaking began. Several other people among the 221 passengers and 12 crew were also injured. The turbulence became so bad the pilots decided to return back to São Paulo. It landed four-and-a-half hours after departing the Brazilian city, reported the Aviation Herald. It is believed the seat-belt sign was on when the aircraft encountered the turbulence. An airline spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider the plane “encountering turbulence while in flight”. "We thank our crew members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding.“ Another incident involving turbulence and American Airlines occurred recently from Tokyo Haneda to New York JFK. Two flight attendants suffered minor injuries. <br/>
