United to begin Bombardier CRJ200 flights between Chicago & Rhinelander

United Airlines will bring back another regional connection using one of its Bombardier jets operated by SkyWest Airlines. The carrier will connect Rhinelander in Wisconsin with Chicago with a short flight expected to last about an hour. United operated this route in 2021 but had to suspend it due to operational reasons. In May 2025, United Airlines will operate a regional service through United Express and flown by a SkyWest Airlines’ Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft between Rhinelander and Chicago O’Hare (ORD). Rhinelander–Oneida County Airport (RHI) serves Rhinelander, a city in Oneida County, Wisconsin. This will be a seasonal service starting May 22 until September 28. It will initially be a daily roundtrip to and from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, but one more daily service will be added from June 28. Matthew Leitner, the Rhinelander Oneida County Airport Director, was quoted by WXPR as saying, “It's really exciting. It's a very popular service. As I often say, it's really difficult, extraordinarily difficult, for airports to secure new airline service, especially in this environment, because we're still kind of reeling from the pilot shortage. It hasn't fully recovered yet. The phrase I often use is, if we don't use it, we're going to lose it. They need that ridership.”
A Swiss International Air Lines flight bound for Zurich from Bucharest made an emergency landing in Austria because of engine problems and smoke in the cabin and cockpit that left one crew member in intensive care, the carrier said. All passengers were evacuated, and most are now returning to Zurich, Swiss said in a statement. Twelve passengers on flight LX1885 received medical care. All who were hospitalized have been able to leave hospital. Two members of the cabin crew are still undergoing medical treatment, one of whom is in intensive care, Swiss said. His condition remains unclear, it added. Swiss said it was working closely with authorities investigating the incident, but for now could not provide further details about what lay behind it.
Runway set to be cleared for airlines to use wet leased planes on new routes

India is set to allow homegrown carriers to use wet leased planes on new routes as the government seeks to address a severe aircraft shortage which is driving up ticket prices and hindering airlines' expansion plans, people aware of the development said. IndiGo and SpiceJet are likely to be immediate beneficiaries of the government move. IndiGo, India's largest carrier, is finalising a leasing arrangement of up to six Boeing 787 jetliners with Norwegian carrier Norse Atlantic, the people said. The government decision will also allow Air India to wet lease planes for starting new flights with the Tata Group airline's much touted turnaround under its new owner getting delayed due to an ageing fleet amid a global aircraft parts shortage. A government official said the change in policy will help carriers mount new routes besides boosting capacity on existing services, helping temper airfares. "Supply of aircraft is tremendously lagging demand due to engine issues and slowdown in delivery. Hence, this change is necessary," the official said.
