Fire crews douse Etihad plane after it aborts take-off at high speed at Melbourne Airport

An Etihad flight has been forced to abort a take-off at high speed from Melbourne Airport causing two of its tyres to burst. Flight EY461 to Abu Dhabi had started down the runway on Sunday but the pilots were forced to slam on the brakes due to “technical reasons”. None of the 289 passengers were injured in the incident. Fire crews were called to the Boeing 787 as a precaution and the runway had to close resulting in delays at the airport. An Etihad spokesperson told Nine News: “The aircraft was safely brought to a stop on the runway and emergency services attended as a precaution. Guests have been disembarked safely and our teams are working to enable them to continue their onward journeys as quickly as possible. “The fire service applied foam to the tyres on the aircraft’s landing gear, which is a routine precaution following a high-speed rejected take-off.”<br/>
