American Airlines will focus on investing in its employees and on-board product now that much of the integration with US Airways has been completed, CE Doug Parker said. Parker said management has to regain the trust of American’s employees. In the years leading up to American’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2011 and afterward, employees took pay cuts and made other concessions. But now that the airline is back to financial health—it reported 2015 net profit of US$7.6b—the carrier must reward its employees, Parker said. He acknowledged that increased pay for all its employees will hit the airline’s bottom line, explaining that “we have to have an engaged and excited workforce. The history has been bad enough. It’s been long enough. If we can get this right, there’s a huge upside.”
Malaysia's transport minister said Monday 2 plane pieces found in Mozambique will be sent to Australia to verify if they belong to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Transport minister Liow Tiong Lai said a part found recently by an American in Mozambique is now in Malaysia for safekeeping. He said a Malaysian team is expected to return this week from South Africa with another part found by a family holidaying in Mozambique. The family took the piece with them when they returned home to South Africa. Liow said both pieces will be sent to Australia to be examined by an international investigation team. Liow said if the Flight 370 links were confirmed, the locations where the pieces were found would be consistent with ocean drift models done by Australia.
