CE: American shifts focus to employees, product
American Airlines will focus on investing in its employees and on-board product now that much of the integration with US Airways has been completed, CE Doug Parker said. Parker said management has to regain the trust of American’s employees. In the years leading up to American’s filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2011 and afterward, employees took pay cuts and made other concessions. But now that the airline is back to financial health—it reported 2015 net profit of US$7.6b—the carrier must reward its employees, Parker said. He acknowledged that increased pay for all its employees will hit the airline’s bottom line, explaining that “we have to have an engaged and excited workforce. The history has been bad enough. It’s been long enough. If we can get this right, there’s a huge upside.” <br/>
