Kenya Airways pilots to strike next week

Kenya Airways pilots’ union has called for a strike in protest at the airline’s turnaround strategy and senior management. The Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) issued a seven-day strike notice on Tuesday demanding changes to Kenya Airways’ management. “KALPA members will from 5 am local time, Tuesday 18 October 2016, down their tools until a comprehensive change of guard at Kenya Airways is effected”, KALPA Secretary General Captain Paul Gichinga said. KALPA wants Kenya Airways’ chairman Dennis Awori and CE Mbuvi Ngunze to resign, saying they have no confidence in their ability to turnaround the airline. Kenya Air, part owned by Air France-KLM, has been selling assets, including aircraft, and wants staff lay offs as it tries to stay in operation after three years of losses.
Delta’s Anderson retires from chairman post after 5 months

Delta said Richard Anderson retired from the executive chairman position he has held since stepping down as CEO at the beginning of May. Frank Drake, the former CEO of Home Depot who has been on Delta’s board since July 2014, will become non-executive chairman, the airline said Tuesday. A Delta spokesman said the company wouldn’t comment beyond the statement. Anderson served as the carrier’s CEO from August 2007 to May this year, stepping down at age 61. Ed Bastian, who succeeded Anderson, said at the time that he planned to look abroad to further Anderson’s efforts to make Delta a more global carrier.
