Legionella bacteria detected at 4 American Airlines hangars

American Airlines says bacteria that cause Legionnaires' disease were detected in water at maintenance hangars in Texas after one worker became sick. In a letter to workers, American said an expert it hired last month found "varying levels" of Legionella bacteria in the water supply for four maintenance hangars at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. American said it will install filters on all showers and faucets and provide bottled water to workers at the hangars. In the memo, American said the bacteria could be coming from the outside water supply. The company told workers that Legionella bacteria are often found in municipal water supplies and cooling towers and their presence in the hangars "does not mean anyone will become ill." The contaminated water was first reported by KXAS-TV, which said that one worker showed symptoms of Legionnaires' disease, which can include fever, muscle aches, vomiting and diarrhea. American said Tuesday that the ill employee has returned to work. Airline spokesman Matt Miller said that the company also was working with the airport and local health authorities to come up with a permanent plan to provide safe water.
American Airlines reaches new deal with flight instructors

American Airlines has reached a tentative agreement with about 300 flight crew training instructors and simulator instructors, the company said Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not immediately released and will be communicated directly with members of Transport Workers Union Local 548. Union members still need to ratify the deal before it is finalised. “We have the best instructors in the business and we're pleased to have reached an agreement that recognizes their importance and contributions to our airline," American’s VP of flight Kimball Stone said. "We appreciate the creativity both negotiating teams brought to the collective bargaining process, and thank them for their hard work and diligence." The flight instructors are stationed at the company’s training centers in Fort Worth, Charlotte and Phoenix. American announced earlier this year it would be moving its flight training operations and Phoenix to Fort Worth and Charlotte by the end of 2017.
Malaysia Airlines named Liverpool's global airline partner

Malaysia Airlines is now Liverpool Football Club's (LFC) official global airline partner, MAS CEO Peter Bellew and LFC's Chief Commercial Officer Billy Hogan announced in the Malaysian capital on Tuesday. The deal comprises a three-year partnership that MAS hopes will bring in more business, especially in China. "Additionally, the partnership will go a long way in increasing awareness of Malaysia, as a tourist destination, to a global audience," Bellew said. When asked if he had any concerns about working with the troubled national carrier, Hogan said there were "no concerns whatsoever" and that the club was "exceptionally proud".
