American Airlines has just brought aboard Janelle Anderson as VP of global marketing. Anderson will be involved in orchestrating many aspects of American’s far-reaching marketing efforts around the world. But her responsibilities also will include overseeing the carrier’s uniform requirements — which have been an focus of intense concern among thousands of AA employees over the past 18 months. She succeeds Fern Fernandez, who oversaw the rollout in Sept 2016 of the hugely-controversial uniforms from Twin Hill that are believed to be tied to symptomatic reactions suffered by thousands of AA employees. Fernandez exited American Airlines in May of last year. A month later AA announced it would not renew a uniform contract with Twin Hill. Twin Hill has insisted its uniforms are safe.
Singapore's airport and tourism authorities have partnered with Qantas in a S$5m (US$3.81m) marketing initiative to grow traffic to and through Singapore. The 3-year Changi Airport Group (CAG), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Qantas partnership is the first of its kind with a foreign carrier. Before this, the authorities have worked only with SIA on such projects. With the new tie-up, CAG, STB and Qantas will work together on a series of joint marketing campaigns in Australia, the UK and South-east Asia to promote travel on Qantas via Singapore. In 2013, Qantas moved out of Singapore, making Dubai its stopover for Australia-Europe flights, although it continued to grow Australia-Singapore services. The decision to return is part of plans to expand Qantas' presence and foothold in the growing Asian market.
