BA COO and director of people to leave

Two top executives at BA are leaving the company in the wake of a damaging pilot walkout last year and amid a transition at the carrier’s parent to a new CE. BA’s COO and its director of people are leaving the carrier after last year’s tense standoff with pilots, which led to the airline’s first strike in decades. COO Klaus Goersch and people director Angela Williams will both step down, the company confirmed. BA’s pilots reported directly to Goersch, while Williams was in charge of industrial relations. “We have made some changes in our leadership team to put us in the best possible position to deliver the next phase of our GBP6.5b customer investment, and to meet the challenges of the digital economy and changing customer needs,” BA said.
American cancels Max flights through mid-August

American Airlines says it expects it will not have the Boeing 737 Max in its schedule until mid-August, the last major US airline to plan through the lucrative summer peak travel season without the new generation aircraft, which has been grounded since March 2019. Earlier in the day United Airlines cancelled all Max flights through Sept 4, and Thursday Southwest Airlines said it will not be scheduling the Max until Aug 10. Delta Air Lines, Spirit Airlines and JetBlue Airways do not have any Max in their fleets or on order. AA has 24 Max aircraft in storage and another 76 on order from Boeing. The type’s grounding is in its 11th month and there is no indication when it will be recertificated and return to revenue service. The FAA and Boeing continue to scrutinise the Max but so far no certification flight test has been scheduled.
