The Lufthansa pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit said it will resume negotiations with the airline and will take no further strike action while talks are ongoing. VC said it would return to the negotiating table to discuss options including mediation. The union wants a 3.66% average pay increase for the last five years. Lufthansa has offered a 4.4% increase in two stages and a one-off payment equivalent to 1.8 months salary. VC has turned that offer down.
United's plans for the all-important rollout of the newest addition to the fleet, the Boeing 777-300ER, came into sharper focus Friday. The carrier said that new aircraft will initially fly one round-trip daily, six days a week between United's hub at Newark Liberty International Airport and San Francisco International Airport between Feb. 16 and May 4 next year. United will begin regular intercontinental service with the new plane on March 25, between San Francisco and Hong Kong. The 777-300ER's debut is important for United because the new aircraft will be the first to offer premium-cabin customers the fully-evolved Polaris international business class that launched Dec. 1. All aspects of the new service were in place as of Dec. 1, except for the new lie-flat seat pods. Those seats will debut when the new Boeing 777-300ER goes into service.
